IT is too well known to elaborate that tobacco is harmful for our health. It is actually wasteful physically and financially. I have learnt from my experience that some friends of mine picked up smoking at a tender age and can not give up the habit now although they are trying their best. Well, trying their best may not be good enough, they should make an all-out effort to give up smoking at any cost. I keep telling my friends about the ill effects of smoking and they are harming not only themselves but also others who are helpless passive smokers. Men in different parts of the developed world have been able to remarkably cut down the number of smokers. Unfortunately, ladies are not being able to do the same. We see many people in the rural areas, including women, use tobacco leaf which is bad for our wellbeing and a leading cause of mouth and lung cancer and other serious diseases. Â Every year, thousands of people die from tobacco-related diseases. Tobacco also pollutes the environment. In the developed world the number of tobacco user is decreasing, but in the developing world the picture is opposite. In our society we do not look down upon tobacco use. Â We should teach our children about the bad impact of tobacco on our health so that they can become conscious and do not take up this habit for sheer pressure. Â Tobacco is the single greatest cause of preventable death globally and we should fight this evil at any cost. Let us lead a tobacco-free life and enjoy better health and a better environment.
